Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, our client is seeking an energetic experienced Applications Engineer that will be responsible for supporting/leading the development and execution of power generation and propulsion control systems driven by prime movers (steam/gas/hydro turbines and diesel/gas engines), with a focus on multi-point injection gas-engine controls.
A main focus of the engineering group is the retrofit and conversion of control systems to Woodward and other programmable controls, and mechanical adaptations. You will be expected to take a project from conception through design and testing to onsite commissioning and all the necessary documentation on the way. Position requires in-depth of knowledge of gas-engines, power generation systems, and Electrical systems, technical writing.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Sales support, determining customer requirements and development of a statement of work based on information supplied from: Sales force, Direct customer contact, Site visits, Interaction with in-house technical specialists, Interaction with vendor specialists.
- Estimate project costs for materials and engineering resource
- Use technical writing skills for quote document development
- Project Design and Development: Taking customer requirement from PO through to completion. This will include but not limited to the following steps:
- Bill of Materials, selection of required parts
- Wiring Diagrams. Cabinet Layout Drawings, design, and development
- Control and software, design, and development
- Assembly and Testing
- Documentation, manual collating, comprising system descriptions, BOM, Drawings etc.
- Testing:
- Inhouse testing of control system, FAT customer testing,
- Site installation and commissioning.
- Field Service as required
- Technical Support:
- Inhouse technical support to sales and service groups as well as customer technical support.
Skills & Experience:
- Theoretical and practical experience with control systems for gas and/or dual-fuel engines
- Proficient with Microsoft Office business software, Word, Excel, Power Point
- Electrical understanding
- Demonstrated self-starting ability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (in English a must, Spanish would be a plus)
- Customer oriented with good interpersonal skills
- Willing and able to travel, domestically and internationally (Travel approx 50% of time)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, and 3 years relevant work experience or diploma and five (5) years relevant work experience in power generation, industrial automation or related industry.
- Professional or Trade certification
- Valid US Driving License
