General Position Summary:
The Systems Engineer (SE) is responsible for designing and implementing information systems that will adequately support the enterprise infrastructure of the organization. Analyzes system requirements and defines system architecture that will meet business needs, including server infrastructure, capacity planning, storage requirements, and networking protocols. The SE diagnoses problems and provides recommendations for improvement on existing and new systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
- Maintain and develop new security, backup, and redundancy strategies
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers or vendors to implement those fixes
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Identify shortcomings and gaps in current infrastructure
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
- Lead and contribute to solution evaluation efforts
- Provide 2nd and 3rd level support to employees and clients
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
- Contribute to the success of annual industry IT and security audits and questionnaires
- Ensure all systems are up to date and patched with the latest security updates
Candidate Must Haves:
- Linux RedHat (install, configure, patch management, troubleshooting, backup and restore)
- CI/CD using GitHub (strong understanding of deploying code changes thru GitHub)
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve server application issues (especially Linux)
Best Candidate would also have some experience with:
- MFT (SFTP/file exchange solution)
- VMware vSphere 7 and/or 8 (configure, patch management, upgrades)
- Veeam Backup & Replication (configure backup jobs, execute recovery jobs, monitoring)
- VMware Site Recovery Manager (configure and execute Recovery Plans, upgrades, patch management)
- Network Attached Storage (NAS) experience (rack, cable, configure, manage)
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (IPv4, DNS, DHCP, basic troubleshooting)
- Windows Server (install, configure, patch management, troubleshooting, backup and restore)
- Basic Server Hardware knowledge (rack, cable, configure, manage)
Nice to Have:
- Linux (Ubuntu)
- RedHat Ansible
- VMware Aria Suite (formerly VMware vRealize Suite; configure, upgrades, patch management, create dashboards)
- VMware NSX (basic understanding)
- Solarwinds (Orion, DPA)
- Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID
- Azure IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
- Microsoft Certificate Authority (configure and manage)
