Compensation: 85000.0 USD – 100000.0 USD / Year
The Senior Systems Engineer leads infrastructure improvements and upgrade efforts,
performs capacity planning, explores new technologies, and participates in architecting
solutions to increase availability, reliability, and enterprise security. Working within a
team, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for specifying, designing, implementing,
maintaining, documenting, and evolving the Information Technology
infrastructure. This includes all servers, storage, network and data center and cloud
environments. The Senior Systems Engineer is expected to manage infrastructure projects
and take initiative to solve problems with maximum independence. The role is expected to
work closely with the Information Security team and respond and resolve infrastructure,
network, and cloud issues identified by the Security Operations Center.

1. Infrastructure Engineering (installation, administration, upgrades, and maintenance of
campus servers, network & telco equipment, and storage area network resources)

- Layer 2 management and configuration
- Layer 3 ISP routers
- ISP connectivity
- WiFi configuration and best practices
- Architecture
- Firewall (Palo Alto)
- DNS
- IPAM
2. Enterprise Applications Administration
- Windows Active Directory and EntraID
- Access Control (area access and security cameras)
- Moodle (LMS maintenance and planning)
- Event Management Systems
- G Suite
- M365 (EntraID, InTune, SSO/MFA)
- Endpoint Detection Remediation
- SolarWinds Monitoring
- Windows Server Update Services
- VPN (Global Project)
- SSL Certificate management
3. Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues
4. Final escalation and remediation point for operations teams’ end user problems
5. Recommend and suggest technologies to satisfy business requirements for groups and end users
6. Administer backup and restore functions for enterprise network and services
7. Data Center maintenance – UPS battery maintenance
8. Document infrastructure, processes, and procedures in wiki
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least five years’ experience working in a multiplatform operating system environment
- In depth understanding of server operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Demonstrated superb verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work onsite as needed per project/work requirements
- Be available for video calls by peers, management, and participation in scheduled meetings
- Work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience in a higher education environment
- At least three years’ experience with Microsoft system administration
- At least three years’ experience managing complex IT infrastructure projects
- At least three years’ experience with LAN/WAN administration
- Knowledge of programming/scripting languages
- Detailed understanding of data recovery, replication, and backup strategies
